DOORS WINDOWS AND ROOFING PRODUCTS ESSENTIAL FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY OF BUILDINGS
SHARJAH
Nearly 1,800 ongoing construction and infrastructure projects in the UAE are generating huge demand for products such as doors, windows and roofing materials, said industry analysts.
The current projects in the UAE are valued at around US$650 billion, according to recently released statistics, with the construction sector remaining the third largest contributor to the country’s economy.
The increased importance of green building codes and the ongoing refit and refurbishment of existing structures has made doors, windows and roofing products the key to energy efficient buildings said Saif Al Midfa, Director General , Expo Centre Sharjah.
In the GCC market glass technology is leading the world due to the extreme weather conditions of a long summer where it is needed not only to protect the existing building structure but also to maintain a stable and comfortable environment within.
The demand for these products is set to surge in the near future with the UAE construction industry expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of around 20 per cent during 2010-2013.
With this background the glass technology entry and exit markets are crucial to the long term viability of a building as an investment product.
The regional construction industry and its growth prospects were the focus of the Doors, Windows & Roofing Middle East 2010, which was inaugurated at Expo Centre Sharjah yesterday (March 8) by Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Expo Centre Sharjah.
The show offers a comprehensive sourcing platform for the construction industry’s requirements of doors, windows, walls, roofing, products and machinery. It will run until March 10th.
“The UAE is continuing to develop several projects in tourism, housing, industrial and commercial facilities, education and healthcare amenities, transportation, communications, utilities, ports and airports. This is generating great demand for doors, windows, walls, roofing, related materials and services,” said Mr Ahmed Mohammed Al Midfa.
“Over 75% of all companies that manufacture and service the industry are based within a 40km radius of Expo Centre Sharjah, making it the natural location for such an event” he added.
With the government’s commitment to boost infrastructure and diversify its economy from oil-driven to other industrial sectors, the construction sector is expected to attract further investments.
Regionally, there are about US$1.35 trillion worth of active civil building projects in the Gulf, where infrastructure investment by governments continues at a robust pace.
This year the show is featuring more than 100 brands of products and services from across the globe, covering over 4,000 sq m of indoor hall area.
Products on display include windows, doors, shutters and sun protection, profiles & insulation, glass and glass products, tensile membrane, wall coverings, access control systems and door operating devices.
Roofing systems, architectural cladding, structural glazing, curtain walling, façade engineering, metal building systems, skylights and sky domes are a major attraction in light of the recent extreme weather conditions which was witnessed across the region as a indicator of future climate change.
Doors, Windows & Roofing Middle East 2010 is organised by Expo Centre Sharjah with the support of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The show is open to trade visitors only, from 10am to 7pm.
